Pink Flamingo Protein Drink (with beets and greens)





Flamingos are always my favorite animal at the zoo.  No surprise, since they are the perfect shade of pink!  The color of this drink reminded me of them.  Enjoy this protein packed green smoothie before or after a workout.  The beets aid in muscle recovery, but they are also full of nitrates.  Your body converts the nitrates to nitric oxide, which can increase your performance and energy.    All that plus magnesium, potassium, Vitamins A, B, and C, iron, phosphorous, fiber, anti-oxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties.  Can't beat beets!  Sorry, I had to.


INGREDIENTS~
1 small beet (or 1/2 large beet)
1 red apple (seeds and stem removed)
2 Napa cabbage leaves
1/2 banana
1 container vanilla flavored coconut yogurt (or almond or dairy yogurt)
1 scoop vanilla flavored vegan protein powder
1 cup water
handful of ice
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
 

Directions:
1.  Scrub beets and peel with a carrot peeler. 
2.  Add the water, apples, and beets to a high powered blender, followed by the remaining ingredients.  Blend.
