The Youthful Skin Smoothie!

You'll want to add this "green" smoothie to your beauty routine.  I've added a bunch of my favorite anti-aging fruits and vegetables, plus some boosters, all in one quick breakfast drink.  Over the years I've learned so much about the skin beautifying qualities of each fruit and vegetable - I truly believe you are what you eat, and that the first place it shows up is on your skin!  Here are a few of the great anti-aging benefits of the ingredients:

RED BELL PEPPER - To build and repair collagen in your skin, you need plenty of vitamin C, which bell peppers are loaded with.  Another huge benefit to bell peppers is their silicon content.  Silicon is responsible for the tight, shiny, and smooth skin of peppers, and it can do the same thing to your skin!

CUCUMBER - Not only are cucumbers an excellent source of hydrating, enzyme filled water (which is great for skin radiance), they are a fantastic source of silica.  Silica imparts a radiant glow to your skin and helps it bounce back from daily environmental stress. 

NAPA CABBAGE - Often overlooked, cabbage is higher than oranges in vitamin C,  and contain vitamins A and E, which together with C are a powerhouse of beauty nutrients for your skin.  It is also high in fiber and sulfur, which means it's cleansing and detoxifying, helping to soften wrinkles. 

PINEAPPLE - Because wrinkle free skin begins in the digestive tract, digestion aiding pineapple is a smart choice in this smoothie.  If your not properly digesting food due to a clogged system, you're not able to absorb all of the beauty nutrients from your food.  The vitamin c content and bromelain which is abundant in pineapple, lead to healthy, soft skin. 

COCONUT - Coconut is an intense moisturizer for your skin, whether it's used inside or out.  Beyond the skin softening benefits, coconut is effective at treating yeast overgrowth and acne.  The healthy fats give you a youthful glow. 

FLAXSEED- Another source of healthy fats are flaxseeds, loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids.  Kiss dry skin goodbye with flax, and reap the added benefits of iron, zinc, fiber, calcium, and manganese.

TURMERIC- Anti-inflammatory turmeric is a wonderful at increasing circulation, crucial for a rosy, healthy glow to your skin.

LEMON - Refreshing lemons aid youthful skin by cleansing and detoxifying your entire body.  The glow you get from lemons is thanks to the vitamin C and enzymes. 

This is how I make my morning green smoothie 90% of the time - mostly vegetables, a little fruit, and water.  I believe that is the most cleansing and healthful to start your day.   If you are new to blending/juicing, you may want to increase the amount of fruit, and slowly work to developing a taste for less sweet drinks.  Or, simply pick a few of the ingredients to mix with additional fruit to be sure you're getting your healthy, glowing skin nutrients every day!


1/2 red bell pepper
1/4 cucumber
1 apple
2 Napa cabbage leaves
1/2 lemon (peeled if blending)
1/2 cup pineapple
1/2 cup berries ( I use frozen Triple Berry Blend)
3 dried mission figs
1 Tbsp flaxseeds
1Tbsp unsweetened flaked coconut
1/4 tsp of turmeric
1 cup water (blender only)
Handful of ice if using all fresh ingredients (blender only)

1 tsp coconut oil
1 cup of coconut water to replace the regular water

Add the watery fruits and vegetables first (cucumber, bell pepper, pineapple, apple).  Fill the blender with the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.  If the taste is too strong for you, add more fruit, or decrease the amount of each vegetable. 

*This makes a fairly large batch.  I like to fill 2 additional Mason jars and keep them tightly sealed in the fridge, that way I only have to prep and make this smoothie once every third day.
